Why This Story,
Why Now

More than 12 million pets are diagnosed with cancer each year in the United States. The people who love them are expected to navigate one of the most emotionally and spiritually devastating experiences of their lives with almost no support for their inner world — only clinical information, statistics, and prognosis.

At the same time, a cultural reckoning is underway. Caregiver burnout, mental health, and the limits of purely clinical medicine are in the national conversation. Millions of high-achieving, deeply accomplished individuals are discovering that success has not delivered the fulfillment they were promised. The hunger is spiritual. The disconnection is real. Audiences are hungry for voices that bridge rigorous science with the emotional and spiritual dimensions of healing — without sacrificing credibility for either.

Dr. Erin Bannink is that voice. A board-certified oncologist who spent two decades inside some of the hardest rooms in veterinary medicine — then came to understand that something essential was missing from everything she'd been trained to offer. She now stands at the intersection of rigorous medicine and sacred healing. She holds both without apology, because she has witnessed firsthand what becomes possible when neither is abandoned.

This story speaks to:

  • Pet parents who feel completely alone in an emotionally devastating experience

  • High achievers who have everything yet feel unfulfilled and are ready to go deeper

  • Caregivers and healthcare professionals grappling with compassion fatigue and burnout

  • Anyone who has loved and lost an animal — and wondered why it shook them to their core

  • Spiritual seekers who want a guide with the rare combination of lineage and lived experience

Conversation Starters

Sample interview questions

A selection for producers and hosts. Full question set available in the press kit download.

to open the conversation

  • You're a board-certified veterinary oncologist. At what point did you decide that conventional medicine alone wasn't enough — and what happened when you said that out loud?

  • What did twenty years in veterinary oncology teach you about the limits of medicine that no textbook ever could?

  • At what point did you decide to stop keeping your two worlds separate?

On the book & pet cancer journey

  • What does a pet cancer diagnosis actually do to a family — emotionally, practically, relationally?

  • You write about Whole-Being Wellness for pets and their people. What does that mean for someone who just got a diagnosis two hours ago?

  • What's the single most important thing pet parents do that makes their experience harder than it needs to be?

On healing, burnout & purpose

  • What's the most important thing conventional approaches miss about healing and burnout?

  • What would you say to a pet parent who has just been told there's nothing more that can be done?

  • What would you say to someone who is drawn to this kind of work but afraid of what people will think?

Graduate Diploma, Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine — CIVT
Spiritual Guide, Healer & Metaphysical Teacher
Hermetic Lineage of King Salomon · Modern Mystery School International
Founder, Divine PowerHouse Center for Healing and Enlightenment

Dr. Erin Bannink has spent more than two decades sitting in exam rooms with pet parents on some of the hardest days of their lives. As a board-certified veterinary oncologist, she guided families through the fears and uncertainties that accompany a cancer diagnosis — and over time, she noticed something medicine alone could not explain. Some patients and their people found a different kind of peace. Others struggled not just with the diagnosis, but with the weight of fear, overwhelm, and disconnection. It became clear that healing was not just physical. It was emotional. It was spiritual. It was relational.

Already grounded in science through her training at Hope College and Michigan State University's College of Veterinary Medicine, she expanded her approach to include acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, earning a Graduate Diploma in Veterinary Chinese Herbal Medicine through the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies. Today she practices Integrative Oncology at Oakland Veterinary Referral Services in Michigan, lecturing internationally on this integrative approach.

Driven by a desire to understand the deeper forces shaping human and animal experience, she followed a spiritual path many seekers know well — gathering wisdom from Christian and Native American traditions, Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism, yogic philosophy, and meditation — yet still sensing something essential was missing. That search led her to the Western Mystery School
tradition
, an ancient initiatory lineage designed not just to inspire, but to transform. Today she is a Spiritual Guide, Healer, and Metaphysical Teacher in the Hermetic lineage of King Salomon, trained through the Modern Mystery School International.

What makes her work unique is her ability to bridge two worlds that are often kept separate: science and spirit. Her journey through a high-achieving medical career revealed a truth she now shares openly: external success alone does not create fulfillment. True healing — and true purpose — emerge when we bring all parts of ourselves into coherence. She founded Divine PowerHouse Center for Healing and Enlightenment to offer others the tools, initiations, and guidance to do exactly that.
